The former Southampton man was caught by Hector Moreno as he broke into the Eredivisie side's box, and received treatment for around 10 minutes before being replaced by Marcos Rojo.
And the England international took to Twitter to describe his disappointment, saying: "Thank you everyone for your messages, words can't describe how gutted I am, my road to recovery starts now, I will come back stronger."
Shaw has been a key player for Louis van Gaal's side so far this season, starting all seven matches for the Red Devils as well as both of England's European Championship qualifiers.
