The Ligue 1 fixture between Marseille and Lyon has been suspended due to crowd trouble, with the visitors leading 1-0 at Stade Velodrome.
Prior to kick off there was a heated atmosphere fuelled by the return of Mathieu Valbuena to his former side, yet this continued and boiled over during the game.
The home support were left frustrated by several decisions from referee Ruddy Buquet, who awarded Lyon a first-half penalty from which Alexandre Lacazette gave them the lead. Romain Alessandrini was subsequently dismissed for a lunging tackle on Mathieu Valbuena, while moments before play was halted, Benjamin Mendy had been booked for simulation in the box.
It was in the aftermath of this incident that visiting goalkeeper Anthony Lopes was pelted with objects, including what appeared to be a flair, which landed near him.
Earlier, there had been a warning to fans in Marseille’s Virage Nord to stop throwing objects at Valbuena as he prepared to take a corner.
A 15-minute delay has been ordered to allow the supporters to calm down.
Previously this season, Marseille’s Stade Velodrome had certain areas closed due to previous indiscretions from the crowd at the end of last term. Following this latest occurrence, they could theoretically be forced to play behind closed doors for at least one Ligue 1 fixture.
