Daniel Amokachi was eased out of the top coaching post at FC IfeanyiUbah because besides his poor results, his selections puzzled club owner Ifeanyi Ubah.
Amokachi compiled a record of four wins and three losses for the ambitious IfeanyiUbah to now languish in 10th place on the Nigeria league table.
But by far Amokachi’s biggest undoing at the Nnewi club was his baffling team selection even after Ifeanyi Ubah splashed more than 30 million Naira to sign new players.
A top inside source informed AfricanFootball.com: “Ifeanyi Ubah just couldn’t understand some of the selection of Amokachi. There was the case of the Nigeria U23 forward Austin (Oladapo) who was signed from Supreme Court FC of Abuja. Amokachi refused to play the player until he was forced to do so and when he did, the boy scored. “There was even a time when Daniel wanted to field Chibuzor Okonkwo as striker when even as a defender the player has been struggling.”
The source continued: “Amokachi could have long been sacked and the late night departure order for the team after the loss to Sharks was only an excuse.”
It was further gathered that the club proprietor was himself a goalkeeper, who was invited to the Golden Eaglets by Fanny Amun in the early 90s and so his deep interest in who plays for his team and how they play.
