Francis Coquelin is undergoing scans on the knee injury he suffered in Arsenal’s defeat to Chelsea but Arsene Wenger hopes it will be a “short-term problem”.
The 24-year-old was brought off in the first half of the Gunners’ 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge on Saturday but the full extent of the midfielder’s injury is not yet known.
Arsenal face Tottenham in the League Cup third round on Wednesday but Coquelin will not be available.
“Francis Coquelin will be out and we have no major problems for anybody else. It should be a similar squad,” Wenger told the club’s official website.
“His knee is swollen and he is being assessed but we hope it is just a short-term problem.”
The Arsenal manager also revealed that Per Mertesacker is available after recovering from a chest infection and insists he will take an experienced squad to White Hart Lane.
“I want to keep the squad together,” he said.
“We go game by game so I will make changes, for sure. How many [youngsters will play]? I’ve not decided yet. It will be quite an experienced squad with one or two younger players.”
