Keylor Navas says he had no intention of leaving Real Madrid in the summer, despite being close to a move to Manchester United towards the end of the transfer window.
Madrid almost signed David De Gea in the final minutes of the window, with Navas set to go the other way, but the move broke down because the paperwork was filed too late.
However, Navas maintains he wanted to remain in the Spanish capital.
"I never thought of leaving Real Madrid," he said after his side's 1-0 win over Granada on Saturday.
"I always wanted to stay here. I am happy here and hope to stay for many years in this shape.
"The transfer to United was complicated, it is not a comfortable situation. But it's now over to me and I am just trying to be focused on the present. That's the only thing it matters.
"I am aware the fans always backed me in any situation."
