Shaw to leave Eindhoven hospital following double leg break

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has been released from hospital after undergoing surgery on a double leg break sustained during Tuesday's Champions League loss at PSV.

The England international suffered the horrific injury 24 minutes into the 2-1 defeat at the Philip Stadion, after being on the receiving end of a strong challenge from Hector Moreno.

It remains to be seen whether the 20-year-old will play again this season but Shaw's operation in Netherlands has been deemed a success and the left-back confirmed on Saturday that he is now ready to return to Manchester.

"I just wanna say a massive thank you to everyone at St Anna hospital for all the care and attention they have given me the last few days," he stated via Instagram.

"Something I will never forget! Am pleased to be flying back to Manchester today so I can start my journey back onto the football pitch!"

United boss Louis van Gaal will certainly be delighted to see Shaw in good spirits, with Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino having revealed earlier in the week that his former Southampton charge had been reduced to tears after the injury.
