Barcelona winger Rafinha is to undergo surgery after scans confirmed he had torn his anterior cruciate ligament.
The Brazil international was caught by Roma's Radja Nainggolan just four minutes after coming on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw, and was stretchered from the Stadio Olimpico field.
And the Liga champions have now confirmed the 22-year-old attacking midfielder will go under the knife to repair the damage.
Barca boss Luis Enrique described the injury as "very ugly" when asked about in on Wednesday, and felt it had affected his players during their Champions League group-stage opener in the Italian capital.
"It is a very ugly injury," he told beIN Sports. "That is the bad news from this round. There will be more tests tomorrow, but it doesn't look good.
"The injury has affected the game, and the spirit of the players. It was already difficult in the first half, with their goal, and the then the second half with the injury."
Rafinha has featured in each of Barca's Liga clashes so far this season having scored in the Uefa Super Cup victory over Sevilla.
