NPFL Week 29 Recap: Nassarawa Shock Sunshine At Akure Plus More


Pillars Record Convincing Victory
Nigeria champions Kano Pillars thrashed Abia Warriors 3-0 in a Week 29 match on Sunday.

Pillars now have 43 points from 29 games, same as Abia Warriors.

Ubong Ekpai, who was superb in the game with a man-of-the-match display, broke the deadlock in the 50th minute after he hit target off Gambo Mohammed's pass.

Ubong Ekpai, after a great footwork, assisted Azeez Shobowale for the second goal in the 83rd minute.
Nafiu Rabiu scored the third goal with a minute to the end of the match.

Sunshine Stars Shocked At Home
The title hopes of Sunshine Stars suffered a massive setback on Sunday when they lost at home to Nasarawa United 3-2.

Sunshine Stars now slipped to fourth on the table with 47 points from 29 games, while Nasarawa United have 42 points from 29 games.

The home team started on a good note by taking the lead under a minute through Okiki Afolabi's header.

However, two minutes into the second half, Thomas Zenke equalised for Nasarawa.
Esosa Igbinoba then put Nasarawa ahead for the first time in the game.

Okiki Afolabi levelled scores for Sunshine Stars at 2-2 in the 65th minute to complete a brace, before Igbinoba struck in the 72nd minute to seal the victory.

Sunshine Stars fans disrupted the game for some minutes when the hosts were leading 1-0.

Enyimba Remain On Top
Two goals from substitutes Andrew Abalogu and Ifeanyi Anaemeka earned Enyimba a 2-0 win over hard fighting Dolphins on Sunday to keep them on top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Enyimba set the pace on the league table with 55 points from 29 games.

Former ABS FC forward Andrew Abalogu, who replaced Mfon Udoh, broke the deadlock in the 64th minute when he headed in from six yards.

Veteran goalkeeper Rotimi Sunday pulled off several saves in the first half to keep Enyimba at bay.

Rangers Gone Down 3SC
Rangers fought back from a goal down to defeat traditional rivals Shooting Stars 2-1 in Enugu.

Tope Orelope put the visiting 3SC ahead after 23 minutes, but Rangers drew level 10 minutes later through Emmanuel Eze.

Osas Okoro gave the home team the lead via a free kick just before half time.

In the second half, Rangers goalkeeper Akor Itodo saved a penalty after dangerous play by Morris Chebem inside his own box.

Shooting Stars were led by goalkeeper Abiodun Akande, who stopped Bobby Clement from scoring against his former club as early as the 11th minute.

The game was almost marred by heavy rain towards the end.
