Lyon were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw in their Champions League opener in Gent with Alexandre Lacazette missing a late chance to win the game, seeing his 88th minute penalty saved by goalkeeper Matz Sels.
The hosts were forced to play over half the match with 10 men after Brecht Dejaeghere was sent off in the 41st minute for a high challenge on Maxime Gonalons.
Hubert Fournier’s side then made the extra man count after the break with Christophe Jallet, who replaced Rafael at the break, heading home Mathieu Valbuena’s corner.
However, the Belgian champions were level just 10 minutes later with Danijel Milicevic firing past Anthony Lopes after good work from Laurent Depoitre.
There was still time for late drama with Gent reduced to nine men late on after Foket brought down Kalulu but goalkeeper Sels was the hero, palming Lacazette's penalty over the bar.
