Injury limited France international Ribery to just 15 Bundesliga appearances last term and he has been out of action since March.
Brazilian forward Costa was signed from Shakhtar Donetsk for €30 million to increase coach Pep Guardiola's options on the wings, but while he admitted he wants to emulate Ribery, his former coach Mircea Lucescu insisted the 24-year-old is not yet at that level.
Costa, though, believes he has got off to a bright start at the Allianz Arena, having bagged two assists and one goal in his opening three Bundesliga appearances.
"Guardiola has trusted me from the beginning 100 per cent," he told reporters. "I felt immediately at ease in the team. I think I have filled the gap that Ribery has left since his injury well.
"I have to use this opportunity. When I came to Bayern, everyone was talking about Arjen Robben and Ribery.
"I have given it my best.
"Guardiola is a coach who prefers attacking football and we do in the national team also we have a lot of possession, you can see it in our games, this fast paced play I think suits me."
The winger is in direct competition with Neymar for a spot in the Brazil national team but has warned he will put up a fight to displace the Barcelona man.
"Neymar is a great player, but I want my place," he said.
