Del Bosque: Pique night out to a night club was sanctioned

Spain manager Vicente Del Bosque has defended Gerard Pique's recent night out despite the defender being criticised by supporters.

The Barcelona centre-back has been booed by a number of fans in his recent appearances for the national team, and has been criticised for visiting a Gijon nightclub in the build-up to Saturday's clash with Slovakia.

That led to some supporters shouting that he was drunk as he made his way onto the team coach following their win in Oviedo that saw them move to the top of Group C.

But Del Bosque has defended his player and said the players going on a night out together was sanctioned.

"Pique was allowed to leave, it does not bother me," he told reporters.

The former Real Madrid manager also revealed David de Gea is ready to play should he be required.

The Manchester United goalkeeper has not played for the Red Devils this season, and was left out against Slovakia as Iker Casillas was preferred.

But Del Bosque admits he would be open to picking the former Atletico Madrid man against Macedonia on Tuesday.

"De Gea is ready to play. I don't know if he will or not, but he's ready," he added.
