The Portuguese attacker became Madrid's all-time top goalscorer in La Liga with his fourth goal, adding a fifth later on to bring his tally up to 230 in 203 games, overtaking Raul who is on 228 in 550.

While debate rages on about which player is superior - Ronaldo or Barcelona counterpart Lionel Messi - Navas believes the answer is clear.

"We all know he is the best in the world," he told reporters after the game. "He's an incredible player.

"We did a great job. The team comes out of this game in a very positive situation and that will give us confidence.

"We're managing to stop sides creating chances and I played with calm and confidence. I'm eager to work hard."
