Ronaldo has a place in history - Benitez

Rafael Benitez says Cristiano Ronaldo has cemented his place in history after he became Real Madrid's all time top goalscorer in La Liga, with five goals in Saturday's 6-0 win over Espanyol.

The Portuguese attacker overtook Raul as the club's leading marksman in the league, ending the game with 230 goals in 203 games ahead of the Spaniard's 228 in 550.

And Benitez was full of praise for the club's talisman after the game, but insisted that his team were not perfect despite the massive away win.

"The numbers speak for themselves. He has a place in history," he told reporters. "I hope that he continues to add to his tally.

"I like to talk about the team when they achieve a result of this magnitude and you can't do anything but highlight the six goals and the five Ronaldo scored.

"There are always things to improve on and that's what we have to do. I say that without vanity but with objectivity."

Los Blancos have scored 11 and are yet to concede after three league games and the coach is pleased with the balance and fluidity they are playing with.

"This is going to be an attacking side that will go out to attack, always based on team balance and respecting the defensive side of the game," he added.

"The forwards have freedom in their movements, and they move around so intelligently, which was the key. And we were able to capitalise on that against Espanyol."
